The urban sector across the globe, especially India, is evolving rapidly and bringing new challenges to city planners and administrators. In view of social and environmental changes, in urban sectors, civic bodies are directing development strategies towards “Smart Cities”. The primary objective of the “Smart Cities” is to improve citizens quality of life by providing core infrastructure – good governance, assured electricity supply, adequate water supply, efficient mobility and public transportation, sustainable environment, health & education etc.
A journey towards “Smart City” begins with transformation in governance, energy, health, education & transportation systems, citizens thinking & lifestyle, and availability & accessibility of information & communication technologies. ICT plays a vital role, to achieve sustainable “Smart City”, in development of scalable & seamlessly integrated structures/architectures for
Smart Energy Management Systems
Smart Health Care
Smart Physical safety & Security
In this regard, IEEE PES Bangalore Chapter, IEEE Bangalore Section & IEEE ComSoc Bangalore Chapter are jointly organizing a two-day brainstorming workshop on “Smart Cities”.
The theme of the workshop is “Smart Cities: Focus on Green Energy, Governance and Health“.
The objective of this workshop is to create a platform where different stakeholders, like city planners, policy makers, social reformers & professionals from power, telecommunication, data analytics, IT and mobility sectors can share their perspective and deliberate on opportunities & challenges associated in advancement of smart cities. This workshop clearly articulates trends of Smart Cities in Karnataka & Pan India and how collaboration among stakeholders – Government, utilities, communities, public, etc., can expedite deployment of smart cities. As smart technologies acts as backbone for sustainable smart cities, great emphasis will be given on development & application of the technologies for improvement of living standards - smart healthcare, reduction in pollution, infrastructure overload minimization, green building initiatives, smart grids, smart lighting, smart homes, e-governance and effective coordination of all subsystems.
At the end of the workshop, the deliberations and suggestions, will be compiled in a white paper and submitted to Government and IEEE PES Head Quarters.
